Longtime resident of Elk City, Idaho, Shannon Seeley, age 87, died peacefully on Jan. 24, 2018, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Cottonwood, Idaho.
Shannon was born in Dallas, Texas on May 29, 1930, and was one of five children born to Ray and Wynne Carnohan. She had three older brothers, Mike, Pat, and Johnny, and a younger sister, Caren.
When she was a young child the family moved to Pacific Beach, Calif. She had fond memories of the times she accompanied her father at the family commercial fishing business. The family also operated a furniture business.
She graduated from La Jolla High School. After graduation she sang in a number of performances with the Starlight Opera and Theater. She was blessed with a beautiful voice and shared that gift with convalescent and funeral homes, and her church choir. She relished the opportunity to perform solos.
Shannon attended Kelsey Jenny Business School and began her career as a bookkeeper.
In the early 1950’s, while still living in Pacific Beach, Calif., she married Vaughn Mehner who was a member of the San Diego Police Department and who also served in the U.S. Navy. His military career took them to foreign places which included the small islands of Kwajalein and Guam. They also lived in New Jersey and Florida.
Together they had two daughters, April and Becca. Throughout their younger years she served as a Girl Scout leader and shared with them her love of horses.
Her second marriage to Bill Seeley brought her to Elk City, Idaho, where her brother Mike gave them a homesite to build on while he was building his dream log home, known to the local residents as “the Ark”.
After a short illness, Bill passed away. The community soon embraced her and she became involved in various activities and clubs. She served as secretary-treasurer for the Elk City Area Alliance, the Timberliners Snowmobile Club, and the Elk City Baptist Church. She also sang in the Community Christmas Contatas.
She enjoyed oil painting and was an avid reader. Throughout her life she had many dogs and cats as her beloved companions.
Shortly after the loss of her husband Bill in 1980, she befriended and soon “adopted” the Taylors, Robert, Debbie and Christina, adding them to her family. This relationship was genuinely loving and lasted for 36 years.
Shannon is survived by her sister, Caren (Carnohan) DeAryon of Arkansas; daughter, April and husband, Dana Silldorff, grandson, Dr. Morgan Silldorff and wife, Jessica and great-grandson, Landon Silldorff, grandson, Austin Silldorff; daughter, Becca and husband, Evan Wagner; daughter, Debbie and husband, Robert Taylor and granddaughter, Christina Taylor.
The family is deeply grateful to the many people, you know who you are and so does God, who crossed her path over the years extending a helping hand which made her life so much fuller.
A celebration of life service will be held next summer.
