JoAnn Wheatley transferred her home in Grangeville, Idaho, to heaven on June 1, 2018.
JoAnn was born March 18, 1929, in Hamilton, Mont., to Sandy and Bess Sanderson. She graduated from Hamilton High School, and later attended the University of Montana in Missoula, Mont.
JoAnn married her high school sweetheart, Don Wheatley. They moved to California early in their marriage. They had four children: Terri, Bruce, Alan and Sandy. Don passed away in 1978. JoAnn worked as a medical transcriptionist for Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospital in Grass Valley, Calif., until her retirement in 1994. She then moved to her home in Grangeville.
JoAnn delighted in making cards and sending hand-written notes to anyone needing encouragement. She loved having children stop by after school to play games, have tea parties, and share her famous chocolate chip cookies. At Christmas-time, she would make hundreds of dozens of cookies and share with many lucky recipients.
One of her favorite times was selling tickets to the high school games. Often lines formed because she talked to everyone and was interested in them and how they were doing. She enjoyed camping, riding the 4-wheeler and picking huckleberries. More than anything, she loved her kids and grandkids. She daily prayed for each one by name. If she offered to pray for you, you can be assured that she did that, and then would always check back to see how you were doing.
Though she had some real difficulties from time to time during her time here, her faith was never in question, and the hard times only made her stronger in her Walk. She was an active member at Grangeville Church of the Nazarene, working anywhere she was needed. She worked in the kitchen, library and VBS.
JoAnn had a quality of positivity that was a blessing to all who knew her. She never ever complained.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Don and her son, Sandy.
She is survived by her daughter, Terri and husband Bob; her son, Bruce and wife Bonita; and her son, Alan and wife Jill; 22 grandchildren: Shane and wife Mindy, Darryl and wife Lisa, Eric, Ryan, Emily and husband Nathan, Nathan and wife Ali, Dusty, Joseph and wife Nikki, Lisa, Brian and wife Emily, Daniel, Patrick, Stephen, Kallie, and Adam and his wife Liz; and 18 great-grandchildren: Emilee, Elizabeth, Elijah, Elias, Haley, Ben, Evelyn JoAnn, Jack, Hayden, Kiya, Mary Ann, Sarah, Brent, Faith, Jason, Owen, Emma, and Melinda.
A celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, June 9, 2018, at the Grangeville Nazarene Church, at 11:00 a.m. Her favorite lunch will be served for all to enjoy. Arrangements are under the direction of Blackmer Funeral Home, Grangeville. Send condolences to the family to Blackmerfuneralhome.com
