Elaine Meissner, age 62, died peacefully from cancer surrounded by family on June 20, 2018. Her battle with cancer was faced by tremendous courage and strength. Elaine was born in Glen Cove, Long Island, New York, March 6, 1956.
In her senior year in high school she met the love of her life, William (Bill) Meissner. They married on Nov. 10, 1974. They lived the next 18 years in New York where they had two children, Doreen and William Meissner, Jr. In July 1992 they decided to move to Idaho to be closer to Elaine’s family in Grangeville.
Elaine was employed at Cash and Carry Market in Grangeville for 24 years. She was well-known for her vibrant smile and exceptional kindness greeting customers at the store. During this time she also volunteered as an EMT at Syringa Hospital for two years.
Elaine had many interests and spent a lot of her time tending to her flowers and feeding the many birds that would come to her yard. She loved the ocean, sunsets and sunrises. She spent many hours with family and friends just visiting around a campfire, four wheeling and fishing. She loved to go to garage sales, dancing and her collection of purses was amazing. Elaine was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. Elaine’s kindness and humor will be greatly missed by her family and friends. She will never be forgotten…
Elaine was preceeded in death by her parents, Mary and Yngve Swanstrom; brother, Paul Swanstrom and great niece, Alliee Rose.
She is survived by her husband, William Meissner, of Grangeville; children, Doreen (Mike) Brewster and William (Hope) Meissner, of Lewiston, Idaho; her brothers, Dennis Swanstrom, of Florida, Roger, (Maria) Swanstrom and Bob (Pam) Swanstrom, of Grangeville; her sisters, Pam (Jack) Voorhees, of Meridian, Idaho and Alison (Craig) Stahl, of Grangeville; five grandchildren, one great-grandchild, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
A gathering of family and friends to celebrate Elaine’s life will be held on Monday, July 2, 2018, at the Grangeville Christian Church at 11 a.m. Reception immediately following at the church.
