Community meeting is Aug. 1

White Bird News

It’s hard to believe that this summer is flying by so fast. There are still so many things that I want to do before the kids have to go back to school. I’ve heard the phrase, “I need a day between Saturday and Sunday,” but I need a month between July and August!

Incident base set up at rodeo

White Bird News

I’m writing this week, just to make sure that everyone knows that White Bird is still here. There hasn’t been a whole lot going on.

IOOF Hall gets wired

White Bird News

Once again, I sit here at my computer wondering what to tell you all this week. I guess I need to get out and about more, or you guys need to start shaking things up.

Area ‘news’ gets exciting

White Bird News

I didn’t write last week, because there just wasn’t much to report. We did have a good White Bird Days celebration. Families and old friends came into town and got caught up with one another. That’s always the best part of it. There was a good parade and rodeos. Other than that, I didn’t hear about any of the winners of the different events.

White Bird Days are on!

White Bird Days is this weekend! There’s going to be fun and entertainment around every corner.

Bike challenge set for this Saturday

White Bird News

I’ve lived here for 39 of my 29 years. You’d think I’d know by now, that White Bird Days doesn’t always fall on the third weekend of June. It does, however, always fall on Father’s Day weekend, which all but every six or seven years is the third weekend. This year it’s not.

Can you believe that today is the last day of April already? I sure wish we could slow this big world down a bit. Joe Wilson will be celebrating his 96th birthday on Saturday. There will be an open house at his place on Slippy Creek. Stop in and say hi and wish Joe a happy birthday.

Silver Dollar jam fun

White Bird News

We had the most beautiful Easter weekend. It’s always nice to see those people who only come around once a year for the egg hunt. Connie and Bill Shuck, after 30 years, are retiring from organizing the Easter egg hunt. We all just want to say thank you very much for giving so much of yourselves to our little town. I noticed that someone lost a kite and it’s hanging in a tree by the churches.

WBVFD sharpens skills with burn

White Bird News

The White Bird volunteer fire department spent last Sunday afternoon sharpening their skills. They lit a huge bonfire next to the creek at Dianne Crea’s house.

Losses abound

White Bird News

Happy April! What a beautiful spring we are having! It’s absolutely wonderful. I love it when everything is so green and new life is blooming all around us. The trees are blossoming and creating us some nummi goodness. It won’t be long until we are pulling apricots from their branches and good ole Salmon River tomatoes from the vines.

Good turnout for sausage feed

White Bird News

If you’re reading this, then it means you survived the epidemic of spring fever that swept through our town last week, and a very crazy moon. I hope everyone got a chance to go out and soak up some sun. The flowers are starting to bloom and everything is getting greener every day. Enjoy! It’s springtime on the Salmon River.

Breakfast set for Sunday

White Bird News

This Sunday is the Joe Wilson’s Saint Patty’s Breakfast! Come to the IOOF hall between 7:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. for some of the best pancakes, eggs and sausage made. The only thing I can think of better than Sunday breakfast, is Sunday breakfast when someone else does the cooking! This is a community event, sponsored by the White Bird Chamber and some of the proceeds of this breakfast will be donated to the White Bird EMTs in memory of Ada Wilson.

Meeting draws 75 to discuss WB school building

White Bird News

We got a little more snow last week and it brought a few laughs for me and my friends. There’s a group of people who live around Cottonwood, who come down here for church every Saturday. After church they always bless me with their presence at Canyon House. We were sitting around the table looking out the window and watching the wind blow the snow up! Those prairie folks thought it was pretty funny, that when you’re at the bottom, everything goes up from here!

Town Hall meeting is Friday: MVSD super to discuss school with residents

White Bird News

Not only do I have news to report this week, but I have the best news that has come to this draw in years! Here it is.

Kernutt, Shuck are basket raffle winners

White Bird News

Sorry for the communication problems last week. But it shouldn’t take long for us to get caught up. It hasn’t been too exciting around here lately. In fact, it kind of feels like winter.

Las Vegas: Another planet

White Bird News

Las Vegas was entertaining. The gift show was amazing and huge. I can’t wait for you all to see the great stuff I found for the store.

Piano tuner on the way

White Bird News

There’s not a whole lot going on around here. The old world keeps on turning, the sun continues to rise, and the seasons keep coming. This January spring has been wonderful. Dad even found his buttercup already.

‘Got what I deserved’

White Bird News

Happy New Year! I hope everyone enjoyed their Christmas and the year 2013. I got a bag of coal and 50 pennies from our Christmas scavenger hunt, which is exactly what I wanted (and deserved). Here’s to a new year with less debt, better health, more money, more time, less government, higher hopes and clean slates for us all.

Computer error causes lapse in coverage

White Bird News

I’m sorry there wasn’t any news last week. Usually it’s my fault, but this time I get to blame it on a computer error. So, let’s get caught up.

Thank you God for the amazing weather we’ve been having. It’s been perfect, especially for hunting and fishing. You know it can change in an instant, so enjoy it while it’s here.

Canyon gets his deer

White Bird News

The hills are alive with the sounds of pickups, SUV’s, gunshots and people. Last weekend there was so much traffic in the mountains, it was crazy! I saw many rigs loaded down with elk and deer.

Fall switch has been flipped

Well, it looks as though ol’ Mother Nature has flipped the fall switch. The cool weather has been welcomed by some and not so much by others, (me). It really bummed me out that the river was so muddy the last couple weeks of hot days, and we didn’t get to go swimming. Now she’s just too cold. I’ll be counting down the days until next summer.

Chili cookoff set for Sept. 28

t’s time to get prepared for the White Bird Medical Relief and Emergency fund-raiser. The chili cookoff will be Sept. 28 downtown. There is a sign-up sheet at the Silver Dollar or you can call any volunteer and let them know that you want to participate. There is a $20 entry fee. There are going to be some great prizes you won’t want to miss out on. All chili must be cooked on site; however, you can soak your beans the night before. After the judging of the chili, around 1 p.m., there will be a $5 dinner that will include all the chili, chili dogs, cornbread and dessert. There will also be a beer garden.
