White Bird News: Annual sausage feed is set for Sunday

Joe Wilson’s Saint Patty’s Day Sausage Feed is this Sunday, March 13. It will be from 7:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The Old-Time Fiddlers will be there to entertain you. This is a family-style breakfast, where you come in, sit down and you are waited on hand and foot, like royalty. Great food, good neighbors and a community fund-raiser.

WHITE BIRD NEWS: Try to make an effort to show up

There wasn’t a very big turnout for the potluck at the school last Sunday. For those of us who did show up, we ate great food and enjoyed ourselves. I just don’t understand why all you people who voted to save the school aren’t showing up to use it.

WHITE BIRD NEWS: New correspondent sought for area

Well, since not one single person called me interested in taking over the White Bird News, I guess I’ll write it again. I’m not too enthusiastic about it anymore though, so please, somebody step up. It’s easy! It’s fun! It’s so rewarding! It’ll make you lose weight! It’ll cure cancer! It’ll make your wrinkles disappear! It’ll clean your house! But wait, there’s more! If you act now, I’ll double your order for free. Wait, what were we talking about?

Once again our little town is blanketed with chimney smoke and the ground is covered in leaves. Next thing you know it’ll be 100 degrees outside again. But right now, we are thinking about Thanksgiving and all the many blessings we have to be thankful for. I hope you all get to spend some time with your families and friends this Thursday.

‘Yellow Pages’ in the works

We’re officially headed into winter. The clocks have turned back, the ghosts have gone, the leaves are falling and we’re thankful for the unknown blessings that are on the way. There was a great turnout at the Silver Dollar for the Halloween party. For those of us who missed it, you can always go on Facebook and see pictures, because what happened yesterday will be on Facebook today.

Elections set Nov. 3; vote at school Tuesday

The Halloween party last Saturday was a lot of fun. There was a big turnout of ghosts and goblins, as always. This year there were quite a few jack-o-lanterns too. Darla would like to say thank you to everyone who helped out and thank you for all the donations that made it possible. It takes a bunch of people to make it work. I overheard an out-of-town kid saying how cool the Halloween party was and that there was nothing like that in their town.

And there went September. Just a few quick notes today. Let’s make sure we have the date right for the next Parks and Rec meeting. It will be on Oct. 12 at the school. If you have an idea, get a hold of Dean, Steve or Christy. Come to the next meeting on Oct. 12. Everyone is welcome!

Community invited to school meet, greet

It feels like fall is starting to set in. I’ve even seen smoke coming from some chimneys. The rain has been a well-needed blessing. I’m hoping God puts those fires out before the entire region burns up. It breaks my heart to know that my children’s children will never see those forests the way I did.

That stinks, because I heard old age doesn’t last long, and guess what, neither will 2015. Each day is a gift. Practice some random acts of kindness, give someone a compliment and make somebody smile. Today is the day you could make a positive difference on this planet. You’re running out of time.
