While the Municipal Complex fires near Orofino, Greer and Reubens are said to be 85 percent contained, and while Clearwater Complex command has made definite progress against the fires in the Kamiah area, Motorway Complex command reported 28 of the 29 blazes in its charge remain uncontained at last check and Selway Complex command was still setting up its shop in Elk City.
Yesterday, the National Weather Service in Missoula yesterday issued a Red Flag warning that takes effect 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. PT today, across the region, including the Palouse, Hells Canyon, and the Nez Perce-Clearwater National Forests. The Weather Service is anticipating gusty winds and low humidities, with southwest winds 10 to 20 miles per hour gusting to 30 miles per hour. Minimum humidities of 14 to 19 percent are expected.
Air resources available today include two CL-415 “Super Scooper” Canadian air tankers stationed at the Lewiston airport to support fire suppression efforts in northern Idaho. Clearwater Complex fire information officer Mike Cole said the "Super Scoopers" will be using Dworshak Reservoir for a water source. Cole said these aircraft may be seen working in the Kidder Ridge area today.
