“My mother was a Sunday school teacher, and she said the best gift God gave us is choice,” Wintrow said. “You don’t drag anybody kicking and screaming toward you, right? You create a presence around you that people want to approach. That day she taught me, you choose how you show up every day.” Wintrow, D-Boise, representing Dist. 19, was the evening speaker for last Friday’s Feb. 16 Pizza and Politics event, held at The Gallery in Grangeville, which drew nearly 50 participants.

House panel advances bill to fully fund sexual assault exams

The bill, HB 429, would remove the clause in Idaho’s victim compensation laws that makes test providers first seek payment from private insurance before being paid by a state pool. The state pool, called the Crime Victim Compensation Fund, would be allocated an additional $300,000 from tax funds. The fund currently consists of a federal grant and fines and fees from criminal justice proceedings.

We must promote talent and ability wherever we find it - not hold it back. Incorporating sexual harassment training into our workplaces is one more step in publicly denouncing sexism and violence toward women.
