White Bird News: Turkey shoot set for Saturday

Although we are in the ending of fall, I do believe that winter is not far behind. I hope everyone is staying warm as the temperatures are getting down in the 20s and 30s, and not warming up much higher during the days. Remember to clean the chimneys, and not to have anything stacked near a fireplace.

White Bird News: 21-gun salute for Veterans Day

November is upon us, so that means for the next two months the holidays will be here, too. Let’s not forget the true meanings of the upcoming holidays, remember families, not only of the present, but of the ones who no longer have families to celebrate with. Far and near, good friends are also family, so stay true to yourself and help to continue your family traditions.

White Bird News: Pottengers available to process wild game

Went hunting Saturday and were coming down Deer Creek, when we came across a big orange rock crusher over the bank. They had the road blocked off and were working at the site, so try to avoid this area. The truck was on a trailer at the Y near Swiftwater RV. Didn’t look too great with the top smashed down, but I believe no one was hurt.

White Bird News: Hydrant offering ‘Drink and Draw’

Crisp air and the dusting of snow on the mountains have brought on the effects of fall and winter right in behind it. Hunters are looking for the “big” buck and the anglers are after the “one” that they hope doesn’t get away! To some, this means snuggling up inside next to a warm fire. Remember to either have your chimneys checked or do it yourself and be careful...we don’t want any fires for a while.

White Bird News: Dinner benefit for Messick is Oct. 20

The “S” word has been heard from some folks this last week. Yes, snow has been spotted in some places, so we now can say the fall and soon to be winter is upon us. The annual wood cutting for the community saw around 40 people turn out to help, split, load and deliver the much-needed wood to those in the community who can’t get out to get it themselves. Our appreciation goes out to all those who brought chain saws and wood splitters; Ginger, for the use of her property; Bonnie Olmstead, for the great lunch; the wood suppliers; Brodie Robinett for hauling the wood; and Tom and Cheryl Cullin for the equipment and fuel.

White Bird News: Legion golf tourney set for Sept. 22

The weather sure is changing, you can feel it in the mornings. Fall is on its way as summer gives up its last few days of warm weather. The fire encampment that was at the rodeo arena has been sent home but the gates to the arena are still locked at this time, so there is still no riding as of now. The committee will let everyone know when you can resume riding down there.

Our hats off to all firefighters and anyone else who are working the fires - please stay safe out there. It’s the end of the month, so not much going on in our little town, but hunting has started, many people are out getting their fire wood, holidays are creeping up on us, so we are busy!

White Bird News: Make plans for an ATV/ UTV Killgore Adventure

Good news. The hot weather has arrived. Bad news is the fires are still raging all over! No containment on the one up by Pollock, so that means that the fire camp is still at the rodeo arena, closing it to the public until further notice. We thank all the firefighters for all they are doing to help keep us safe! Meetings coming up will be the WBARD one on the 13th at 7 p.m. The chamber will not be having one this month, but will resume in September.

“And the thunder rolls.” Yes, it did Sunday evening, along with mud slides, rock and flooding during the weekend. I hope everyone is OK, and was out of harm’s way. White Bird News: High school rodeo, yard sales set for weekend

A taste of summer and we’re back to spring rain...but the sunshine is returning again this week. Most of you on the river have probably by now been experiencing cell service. That’s right, as they have the tower up and running at Slate Creek and are working on the one up above the cemetery. It is up and you can see it from the road. The Fiesta Dinner went really well, music, great food and prizes. Raffle winners were: Darla Brumley won a quilt, Cheryl Cullin won a framed picture, Vicky H. won the crocheted rug and Darlene Wadsworth won the pillow cases. The gun show at Hoot’s showed some really nice articles for sale or trade. The parking lot seemed full for the most part.

White Bird News: Rebekah ‘Spring Fiesta’ is Saturday

I think old man winter has finally given up and the warmer weather is on its way. Along with this will bring the snowmelt, rising waters and it will be cold, so be careful around the rivers and streams. The greenery and flowers sure do look great! I found out that the cell phone tower at Slate Creek is now up and running. So far it is only cell service, but data will be operating soon. They are still working on the other one above the cemetery.

White Bird News: Breakfast, bake sale, turkey shoot all set for weekend

Well here I thought we could get away with that “S” word for Spring, but, I think it’s still for Snow!! Does this remind anyone of last year? Spring actually started on the 20th, so let’s hope some sunny weather will come along with it. The chamber had a great turnout for the St. Patrick Day’s sausage feed. Lots of pancakes and sausage. Although a little cool, we appreciate everyone coming out to support this annual event.
