Students from Kooskia competed in last Saturday’s March 3 inaugural North Idaho FabSLAM Student Showcase at Lewis-Clark State College in Lewiston. The project began in October 2017 when the Digital Harbor Foundation trained and the STEM Action Center equipped teachers from 15 educational organizations in the region so they could assemble and coach teams to vie in a 3D printing competition. Each team identified a transportation-related problem in their community that can be addressed using 3D printing and then developed and documented a product to help resolve it. Grangeville students presented a front-mounted bicycle device to leash and walk a dog, and Kooskia students developed a retractable pedestrian guard fence for safety improvements at intersections.
