State Historic Preservation Office adds Jan. 14 Kooskia meeting to schedule

Thursday, in response to a request by the Idaho County Historic Preservation Commission and Idaho County Commission chairman Skip Brandt, SHPO scheduled an additional informational meeting regarding the Nez Perce Tribe’s nomination of a vast tract of Lochsa River land for historic preservation. This Monday meeting is scheduled for 6 p.m. Jan. 14 at the Kooskia Community Hall, 26 Main St., Kooskia.

Meeting tonight on Lochsa corridor historic nomination

The Lochsa’s recent history has been one of controversy, and the long-running clash over the future of ancient places dear to the Nez Perce Tribe was renewed last month with the start of a public process that could end with addition of a new historic district to the National Register of Historic Places. A local informational meeting is scheduled for tonight, 5:30 p.m. Sept. 12 at the Super 8 in Grangeville.
