Council reviews options to fix sinking Main Street brick strip

In the nearly two decades since the decorative brick strip was installed along Grangeville’s Main Street, its care and maintenance has been – at best — very little, but more often on the slim to none side. As a result, bricks are obscured with dirt, overgrown with weeds in places, and sunken below grade for long stretches. Twice in past years, the issue has come before the city council’s attention, with no action. Could the third time be a charm?

Pollock couple held in Oregon on warrants for Hoot’s burglary

Incarcerated in Oregon, a Pollock couple await extradition on pending felony charges related to a burglary in February. Bond is set at $25,000 for Shamra C. Dewitt, 31, and $50,000 for Steeven G. Nunez, 29, both of whom are being held in Baker County, Ore. The pair was arrested March 4 on Idaho County warrants by Baker City Police (BCP).

State GOP candidates stump at Lincoln Day event

“2018 will be the biggest election for Idaho in a generation,” stated Jonathan Parker, new chair for the Idaho Republican Party. He – along with candidates for state and federal offices — addressed around 250 attendees last Friday night, March 9, at the Lincoln Day Dinner. This year’s event, held at the Greencreek Community Hall, was jointly sponsored by the Idaho and Lewis county Republican central committees.

Bathrooms at square? Save your money

Last week the city council got to the bottom of what it would take to put in bathrooms at Heritage Square. For now, it’s not their number one priority. Continuing a discussion topic from last year, the Grangeville City Council last Monday, March 5, heard from public works on cost estimates, placement and continued maintenance for a public restroom.

Members of Ballet Barre of Idaho County pictured March 7 at the United Methodist Church in Grangeville. Ballet Barre provides lessons in tap, ballet and lyrical dance to those age 4 and through to seniors in high school. Classes are offered Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. ‘Buying your portion...’ - Hard facts of city fees aired at Grangeville public meeting

Figuring out what the city will charge users for its fees can be a confusing, complex formula with an alphabet soup of acronyms. As well, it involves the entirety of public utility issues imaginable from existing water capacity, needed repairs, wastewater plant chemistry, federally mandated upgrades and essential public safety concerns. “And then you try to explain it to the people paying the bills,” said Grangeville public works director Jeff McFrederick, “and they look at you like you’re full of it.”

Software company giant Microsoft is going out of business, and you are due for a refund. Umm, no, it’s not, and no, you’re not. “It’s so strange. It’s so obviously a scam,” said Bonnie Asker of Grangeville.
