Author to talk on Forest Service book May 5

KOOSKIA — Tom Keller, author of “31 Years on the Upper North Fork of the Clearwater River” will offer his version of life spent on the trails in the mountains working for the USFS through stories and photos. Please come join us to learn more local Idaho history on May 5, at 1 p.m., in the Kooskia Community Center. Friends of the Kooskia Community Library will sponsor his presentation and provide refreshments. His recently released book will be available for purchase.

Kamiah Color Run is May 5

KAMIAH — The 4th Annual Kamiah HOSA 5K Color Run will take place Saturday, May 5. The registration fee is $20 for adults, $10 for kids from kindergarten through sixth grade, and the price of registration includes a T-shirt. Children younger than 5 years old run free. The run supports both ICARE and the Kamiah HOSA students. There will be a photo booth, Kiwanis Ice Cream Trailer, and lots of fun colors that you’ll be blasted with while running around Kamiah. Governor candidate Ahlquist at Cottonwood May 4

COTTONWOOD — Republican candidate for governor, Tommy Ahlquist, will be visiting Cottonwood this Friday, May 4, as part of his statewide campaign tour. The public is invited to attend this event, set at Dog Bark Park at 10 a.m., to visit with him and ask questions. The primary election will be held Tuesday, May 15.

Mining district meeting set

HARPSTER — Tenmile Mining District will be holding its monthly meeting on Saturday, May 12, at Harpster RV Park at 2 p.m.

UYLC to hold yard sale

KAMIAH — The Upriver Youth Leadership Council (UYLC) is hosting a benefit yard sale on Friday and Saturday, May 4 and 5, in Kamiah at the UYLC office, 413 Main Street. Proceeds from the yard sale will be used to help send members of the UYLC Youth Advisory Board (YAB) to the National Youth Leadership Institute being held in Orlando, Fla., in July 2018. Family Fun Day is May 12 at Eagles Hall

GRANGEVILLE — All are invited to a Spring Family Fun Afternoon on Saturday, May 12, 2-4 p.m., at the Eagles Hall, 218 North C Street. This event is sponsored by Veterans Service Organization 40 & 8 and Auxiliary La Femmes. Proceeds go to nursing training scholarships and children and youth fund.

Tickets are $10 per person for all-you-can-eat treats and ice cream plus 10 free raffle tickets or $25 for a family of any size, all-you-can-eat and 25 free raffle tickets. There will be a ticket raffle with drawing at 3:15 p.m. and a jewelry store selling costume jewelry for one ticket for each item all afternoon. Flamingos spotted in Kamiah

KAMIAH — Flamingos will be flying into Kamiah for the annual “Flocked” HOSA fund-raiser. Send a flock to your neighbors, friends or family for $10, and the flock will land in their yard. It’s $5 to make the flock fly away, or $10 dollars to send the flock along to the person of choice. HOSA students are at work raising money in order to be able to fly to Texas and compete in the International HOSA competition.

Mother’s Day ice cream social benefits local causes

GRANGEVILLE — Everyone is welcome to an ice cream social with a ticket auction and concert that celebrates Mother’s Day and benefits two local organizations. The event will take place on Saturday, May 12, from 3 to 5 p.m., at the Idaho County Veterans Outreach and Community Center, 318 East Main in Grangeville.

Admission is $10 for adults (12-plus), $5 for kids 6 to 11, and youngsters younger than 6 are free. Admission includes ice cream sundae and dessert bar plus 10 tickets for the ticket auction. Additional tickets will be available for purchase.

GOP convention delegates chosen May 23

GRANGEVILLE — The Republican Party will be selecting delegates and alternates to the Idaho Republican Party State Convention in Pocatello, June 28-30. The delegate selection meeting will be at the Super 8 Motel in Grangeville on Wednesday, May 23, starting at 6 p.m.

The requirements to be a delegate or alternate are being a registered Republican in Idaho County and signing a statement stating ability and intention to attend the convention.

Fiddlers to host state convention at Hoot’s May 4-6

WHITE BIRD – The annual Idaho Old-time Fiddlers State Convention will be at Hoot’s Café in White Bird May 4-6. Once again there’ll be free classes on every instrument including banjo, being taught by Mike and Tari Conroy which will also include a free CD of the lessons.

A lunch buffet will be available for purchase at Hoot’s.

GRANGEVILLE – Anyone interested in square dancing is asked to meet at the Grangeville Senior Citizens Center on the truck route Monday, May 7, following lunch, about 1 p.m. From there, it will be determined how much interest there is.

Dance set for Orofino this Sunday

OROFINO — A country dance is set for the Orofino VFW Hall Sunday, May 6, 1-4 p.m. Potluck at 4 p.m.; main dish provided, bring a side to share. 

Cost is $5 and will feature the Mike Jenkins and Friends Band. Dances will continue the first Sunday of the month.
