Rehder returns home to take leadership role at Prairie High
COTTONWOOD — A familiar face will return to Cottonwood to serve as Prairie Jr.-Sr. High School (PJSHS) principal next year. Jon Rehder, a 1996 Prairie graduate, will fill the lead role at the start of the 2017-2018 school year.
“[My wife and I] are just glad we’re coming back to the prairie,” Rehder said.
Rehder will replace Carrie Nygaard who will retire this spring.
Rehder arrived in Cottonwood Friday, April 21, to meet with PJSHS staff and introduce himself. He said he sought input from the staff and what, if anything, needed to be changed. Though he stressed he was impressed with the success Nygaard and the rest of the staff have achieved.
“My philosophy is if it’s working, why change it,” he said. “I feel like I am coming into a well-oiled machine.”
Rehder currently is the vice principal at Jefferson Middle School in Caldwell. He served as an administrator for three years, previously teaching for 10 years at Meridian High School. He also was varsity assistant boys’ basketball coach for nine years at MHS.
The Prairie High alumuni is the son of Jim and Sally Rehder. Jon earned his undergraduate degree from Lewis-Clark State College before obtaining his masters at Boise State University.
Rehder brings his wife, Renee, and their two children when he returns to Cottonwood this summer. Renee also grew up in the area, she is the daughter of Ted and Linda Arnzen and graduated from PHS in 1997.
