The Salmon River Heritage Center has a new feature in its main display case showcasing Patsy Murphy’s collections of salt and pepper shakers and other knickknacks that she willed to the Heritage Center. Check at Riggins City Hall for a time to visit Salmon River Heritage Center; it is not open on a regular basis.
Dance lesson tonight, Wednesday, June 13, 7:30 p.m., at the Wilderness Eatery right on Main Street in Riggins; there is no charge, and everyone is invited to get out, have fun, and learn some new dance steps.

Sandlot baseball is every Monday evening through Aug. 27 from 6-8 p.m., at the SRHS baseball field. All ages are welcome; no sign-up; no fees. Bats, balls, and gloves are available for use. Remember to take your water bottle with you. This activity is not affiliated with City of Riggins, SRHS School District, or ASK, Inc. All who attend play at their own risk. Reports are that this is a great time!
Salmon River Public Library Summer Reading Program, “Libraries Rock”, will begin Tuesday, June 26, at 1 p.m., and each Tuesday following, July 3, 10, 17, 24, 31, and Aug. 7. All kiddos ages 2-10 are invited to join in on the fun; Miss Susan reads stories, the kiddos do crafts, and snacks are served.
Quilt Raffle to benefit the Salmon River Dive Team is ongoing. Tickets are available at Riggins City Hall where it is on display; drawing will be held July 1. Once again, the talented and benevolent Pinehurst Quilters made and donated this king-size quilt.
The Riggins City Park stage project will be ready and operational by Hot Summer Nights. The Muzzie Braun free concert on Memorial Day was a super success. Donations/proceeds from the event totaled $3,300…all to be used for stage materials; labor is done by volunteers. Special thanks goes out to Clyde and MaryLou Hirst for hosting the event in their Idaho Banana Co. Orchard. Timber Vanlom closed out the day in style. Thanks to all who attended and helped raise the needed funds. Any further donations may be made at Riggins City Hall.
The Manning Crevice Bridge ribbon cutting ceremony was very successful with about 89 people in attendance. The program was very interesting with each of the Project Partners, U.S. Department of Transportation Federal Highway Administration, U. S. Forest Service, Bureau of Land Management, Idaho County, City of Riggins, Contractor Record Steel and Construction Inc. as well as a great history lesson from Davide Sisson, BLM. Jesse Webb, lead bridge engineer, flew in from his new job in Alaska to be here to help officially open the bridge.
The City of Riggins received a $300 grant through the Idaho Nursery & Landscape Association in cooperation with the Idaho Department of Lands and Idaho Power to assist in the 2018 Arbor Day Celebration. Two new trees were planted in the city park, May 7, 2018.
Bingo for July will be the second Wednesday, July 11, at 6:30 p.m., at the Riggins Community Center. The progressive Bingo pot of $282 was won by Carol Foster last week.
Vacation Bible School, VBS, at Salmon River Community Church will be held Monday-Friday July 23-27 from 9 a.m. to noon with the Texas Team once again leading the way. VBS is open to kiddos 3 years old-5th graders with 6-12 graders invited to be junior leaders; the SRHS football field will be a gathering place for 6th graders through college kids to have an evening of fun with theTexas Team. Time to think about entering the Famous Talent Show Friday night…entries are already coming in…and be ready to dance your shoes off Saturday night after the great car show Saturday afternoon. The Family Dollar Store will open in Grangeville July 12, 2018…located in the Old King’s Store just on the edge of town to the south.
Leighton News: The big news about Leighton this week is the huge Leighton Vander Esch highway sign located about two miles south of Riggins just across Highway 95 from the Unique Antlers Gift Shop. Along with his great Leighton smile, holding a winning trophy, and wearing his Boise State football uniform, the sign reads “Congrats Leighton Vander Esch, Salmon River Legend. Boise State Star and First Round Draft Pick.”
