GRANGEVILLE — Three local children were recently selected as semi-finalists for the “Military Child of the Year” contest.

Olivia, Marissa and Jack Kennedy were nominated by their mother, Bobbie. Their father, John, a 1990 graduate of Lewiston High School, recently retired from the Coast Guard. The family moved to Grangeville from Maryland in July 2014. Family and new jobs brought them to the area.

As a military child, she moved seven times and experienced four years of deployments.

Marissa is a sophomore at Grangeville High School. She was selected for and will participate in All-Northwest Choir. She is a varsity cheerleader and will be in her school’s upcoming play. She will also represent GHS as attorney general at Idaho Youth Legislature. As a military child, she moved six times and experienced nearly four years of deployments.

John “Jack” is a seventh grader at Grangeville Elementary Middle School (GEMS). He is part of the quiz bowl team, played on the basketball team, and was the runner-up at the GEMS geography bee.
