Stites man charged with felony following Jan. 23 late night pursuit

Bryan Nielsen

KOOSKIA — A Feb. 6 preliminary hearing is set for a Stites man charged with felony eluding a police officer following a pursuit incident in Kooskia last week.

On two related misdemeanor charges, Bryan D. Nielsen, 39, pleaded not guilty last week to DUI (second offense) and resisting arrest.

Charges resulted from an early morning pursuit last Tuesday, Jan. 23, of Nielsen who, according to an Idaho County Sheriff’s Office release, is alleged to have failed to yield to a law enforcement traffic stop in Kooskia and fled.

During the approximate hour-long and more than 37-mile pursuit, Nielsen is alleged to have crossed blind intersections without slowing, reached speeds of 80 miles per hour and struck his vehicle into an ICSO pickup. Deputies were able to block Nielsen on Clear Creek Road, who then got stuck on a snow berm and was arrested at 2 a.m.

ICSO received assistance from a Lewis County deputy during the pursuit. ICSO vehicle damage was reported as minor.
