GRANGEVILLE — Harold and Eldene (Rupe) Wasem are celebrating their 70th wedding anniversary. They were married on Jan. 9, 1949, in Grangeville.

Harold was born on the Wasem family farm near Fenn in 1923 and Eldene was born in Harpster in 1928. Except for the time served during WWII, Harold always lived on the family farm until moving to Grangeville in 1999 to retire.

After marriage, Eldene joined him on the farm where, together, they raised their six children: Keith (Julie) Wasem of Aurora, Neb.; Lt. Col. (retired) Vaughn (Marcia) Wasem of Clarkston, Wash.; Larry (Carolyn) Wasem of Santa Rosa, Calif.; Scott (Audrey) Wasem on the family farm at Fenn; Sheryl (Michael) Gorton of San Rafael, Calif.; and Reed (Kristi) Wasem of Emmett, Idaho. They also helped raise Eldene’s sister Sharon (Maynard) Clark of Lafayette, Calif.

The Wasems have 15 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren with one on the way. This past July, Harold and Eldene had a celebration party in conjunction with Harold’s 95th and Eldene’s 90th birthdays. Except for one grandchild who was expecting, all the Wasem’s children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were in attendance, along with a large number of extended family and friends.

Anniversary wishes may be sent to them at 316 S State Street, Grangeville, ID 83530.
