County buying $17K in equipment for airport grounds, spending $50K digitizing records

GRANGEVILLE — Idaho County approved budget changes for spending on airport grounds equipment and courthouse records digitization. For the airport, the commissioners approved buying a tractor and mower for $7,000 and a truck and snowplow for $10,000 from the City of Cottonwood last month. A budget hearing was held Monday, Jan. 14, following a Jan. 9 legal notice published in the Free Press.

Also approved, as an additional expense under the clerk-auditor budget line, was $50,000 for digitizing county records that are currently available on microfiche and aperture cards, clerk Kathy Ackerman told the Free Press Jan. 9.

“We are going to have our old microfilm and aperture cards digitized,” Ackerman explained. “The machine that we currently use for viewing these old documents is no longer serviced or supported, so we were looking at either getting a new machine for around $10,000 or making the leap to conversion. The commissioners decided that the best use of taxpayer money would be to move toward a more modernized delivery format for those old records.”
