Dreadfulwater, Darr spark GHS

Trey Dreadfulwater

This past off-season was a busy one for two Grangeville guards, both of whom have posted strong starts this basketball season.

“Me and Blake Darr, we spent a lot of hours in the gym before the season,” sophomore standout Trey Dreadfulwater said in the wake of the Bulldogs’ win over McCall, during which he scored 13 and Darr scored 19. “We practiced every week, mainly shooting and playing one-on-one and practicing ball handling. Not a whole lot in the weight room, but a lot of conditioning.”

GHS is scheduled to visit Weiser on Saturday — a team the Bulldogs haven’t yet played in Dreadfulwater’s time, despite attending a tournament there during the summer.

“We played some other teams there over summer,” he said. “I don’t really know what they’re like.”

But he and the Bulldogs do know a bit about two teams Dreadfulwater is looking forward to seeing this season: Prairie and St. Maries.

“I’m super excited for the shootout,” he said. “Maybe we can get them this time.”

He said there’s a bit of a vengeance factor in play, as the Pirates swept GHS in Grangeville last year.

“They’re not even league, but that Prairie game is one of the biggest games of the season,” Dreadfulwater said. “It’s fun playing them.”

The Bulldogs also have an eye on St. Maries, which graduated a significant part of its roster.

“They lost a lot of seniors, but their JV was super-strong last year,” Dreadfulwater said. “I think they went undefeated, and they definitely have some returning varsity players.”
