Motorists can expect a four-day traffic detour in Kooskia later this month for planned bridge inspection by the Idaho Transportation Department.
The East Kooskia Bridge is scheduled for closure April 15-18 to undergo evaluation and possible repairs by specialized consultants, Wiss, Janney, Elstner Associates, Inc.
“The East Kooskia Bridge gets inspected every year,” said ITD spokesperson Megan Sausser. Depending on what is found from the inspection, the consultants are prepared to make any mitigation needed. “Repairs won’t change the posted load limit, but they will keep the bridge in service longer,” she said.
The Kooskia structure is one of three bridges – including at White Bird and Spaulding -- undergoing specialized inspection by the firm with the total contract at $95,000 for all.
Inspection for the White Bird Bridge will be conducted April 10-11.
“We’ll leave one lane open, at least, depending on what we’re doing,” Sausser said of the White Bird work. Southbound commercial traffic will be stopped at the top of the grade to inform them in the event of a lane closure.
Work on Spaulding Bridge will be April 9-10, again possibly necessitating a one-lane closure.
