GRANGEVILLE Cause of death is pending an autopsy for a 21-year-old Grangeville man who suffered medical issues while in Idaho County custody.
Justin R. Ross was pronounced deceased at Syringa Hospital last Thursday night, Dec. 14. The Idaho County Sheriff’s Office (ICSO) has requested the Kamiah Marshall’s Office to conduct an incident investigation.
No preliminary cause of death is available. Idaho County Coroner Cody Funke said it could be a month and a half to two months, pending on the testing needing to be done, to receive autopsy results from Ada County, where Ross’ body was sent for autopsy Dec. 15.
Ross was booked into the Idaho County jail last Thursday at 9:45 p.m., according to an ICSO release, on an Idaho County warrant for fail to pay on trespassing to hunt without permission.
According to ICSO, as Ross admitted to being under the influence of an intoxicant and he was having difficulty with his balance and speech, he was placed in the maximum security cell and jail staff began 15-minute safety checks.
At approximately 10:30 p.m., jail staff observed Ross did not appear to be breathing, and they entered the cell and began CPR. Syringa Ambulance transported Ross to the hospital where he was subsequently died.
