MVSD 244 board does not extend superintendent's contract

Superintendent Marcus Scheibe reports at the Nov. 19 school board meeting.

GRANGEVILLE — Following a tension-filled board meeting and hour-long executive session Tuesday night, Jan. 22, the news was not favorable for Mountain View School District 244 Superintendent Marc Scheibe.

"The board did not take any action on the superintendent's contract," said board chair Lot Smith, following the closed-door portion of the regular monthly business meeting. "I suppose we can answer any questions if you have them."

Though more than 45 people attended the meeting earlier that evening, by nearly 8:40 p.m., only a handful remained.

"What exactly does that mean, 'no action?'" questioned Lewiston Tribune reporter Kathy Hedberg.

"The contract was not extended," Smith answered.

No reason was given for the decision.

Scheibe's current contract runs through the 2019-20 school year.

Details on the remainder of the meeting will be in the Free Press in coming weeks.
