Mardell J. (Soderburg) Edwards, 85, Grangeville

Mardell J. (Soderburg) Edwards, of Grangeville, Idaho, died Jan. 21, 2019, at Grangeville Health and Rehabilitation in Grangeville, Idaho at the age of 85. She was born to Earl O. and Vera M. (Richardson) Soderburg, July 25, 1933, at their home at Tolo Lake, delivered by her father. At 9 months of age, she and her family moved to Winona, Idaho. She attended Lamb School #45 through her 7th grade, and then drove for two years to attend Grangeville Junior High and High School. In 1949, she and her family moved from Winona to Poor Farm Road in Grangeville where Mardell graduated from Grangeville High School in May of 1951. In Oct. 1951, Mardell married Alvin C. (Bud) Edwards. They made their home in Grangeville until Bud was drafted into the Army. She accompanied him to California for basic training, then to Fairbanks, Alaska where their son Terry was born in 1954, after which they returned to Grangeville for the rest of her life. Shortly after their return to Grangeville, their daughter, Sheila, was born.

Mardell enjoyed raising her family, gardening, cooking, raising cattle and helping her husband.

She was a member of Mizpah Rebekah Lodge #12, Farm Bureau, Idaho Lewis County Cattleman and Grangeville Garden Club. She organized and was President of Idaho County Property Owners Association. She was also President of Idaho State Property for one year.

She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter Sheila; son Terry; siblings, Donna Nail and Jerry Soderburg; and nephew, Eric Nail. She is survived by her four grandchildren: Stacy (Dan) Shephard, Dallas (Ronda) Edwards, Cody (Bernadette) Edwards, Bret (Londa) Edwards and 11 great-grandchildren.

At her request, there will be no services and cremation has been performed. Private family services will be at a later date.
