The Kamiah boys basketball team defeated Clearwater Valley 40-39 with Titus Oatman scoring a free throw with 5 seconds left to break the tie. The Clearwater Valley girls basketball team easily beat Kamiah 52-29 earlier in the evening.
The Clearwater Valley girls scored what proved the winning points in their 52-29 triumph over Kamiah during the second minute of the third quarter, but the boys game went to the buzzer, as Kubs junior Titus Oatman broke a 39-all tie in Kamiah’s favor by sinking his second attempt at the foul line with five seconds remaining.
“CV and Kamiah have entered a cooperative agreement for cross-country this year and the two schools will have one combined team,” reported Clearwater Valley High School Principal Adam Uptmor at the Aug. 20 Mountain View School District 244 board meeting.
Only the three trustees – Smith, Lutz and Dominguez – were present at the meeting held at Clearwater Valley High School. The three voted unanimously to give a 2 percent increase to administrators and a 5 percent increase to non-certified employees.
School officials have rescheduled the boys basketball game between Clearwater Valley and Lapwai, which was called off due to illness on the CV side.
Having watched the Kamiah girls double up Clearwater Valley 44-21, the KHS boys played a tight game against CV last Friday night, Dec. 8. The Rams held a 13-13 halftime tie, but that was before a couple of tough plays by Kaleb Oatman — combined with a bit of sharp shooting — keyed a second-half surge and a blowout Kubs win, 51-29.
