Orofino played energetically for stretches during the first and third quarters Friday night, Jan. 4, but the Clearwater Valley boys wore them out with a 21-2 run during the second quarter of a 68-36 win over the Maniacs.
Orofino briefly led, 12-11, after scoring four quick points to start the second quarter, but CV regained the lead with a fast break basket and quickly extended it to eight points, 22-14, on a jumper by top scorer Tyler Pressley, who went on to finish with 20 points. Evan Jackson, who scored 17 for CV, canned a tough layup to make it 27-14 late in the second, and the 32 points CV scored during the first half nearly topped Orofino's total.
The Maniacs had 27 through three quarters, but even after scoring back-to-back-to-back threes -- among seven triples on the night -- Orofino trailed by 30-plus for much of the fourth.
Next, the Clearwater Valley boys host Prairie Jan. 8.
