Cole Schlader (14 points) and Spencer Schumacher (13) powered Prairie to a 45-38 win over Challis during the first round of the 1AD1 boys basketball state tournament Thursday night, Feb. 28, at Vallivue High School. With the win, the Pirates are on to the semifinals; they are set to play the Lapwai at 8 p.m. MT Friday night, March 1. Lapwai defeated Ambrose 65-59 Thursday night.

PHS carried a one-point lead to the fourth quarter, and by the end of the night, the Pirates had outscored Challis 13-6 at the foul line. Schlader went six-for-eight from the stripe, while Schumacher went three-for-four and Damian Forsmann went four-for-four.

Prairie, which reached the tournament by way of the District II consolation bracket, forced 17 turnovers, per stats provided by the IHSAA.

Should Prairie win again Friday, the Pirates would play for the state title at 11:30 a.m. MT Saturday, March 2, at the Ford Idaho Center. With a loss, Prairie would play for third place at 11 a.m. March 2 at Vallivue High.
