After turning a five-point first quarter deficit into a 13-point halftime lead, the Grangeville boys took control of their Central Idaho League destiny, beating Orofino 72-57 Tuesday night, Jan. 22.

Behind 23 points from Blake Darr, 14 from Jacob Vanderwall, 14 from Noah Kaschmitter, 12 from Colby Kennedy and a 23-5 scoring run during the second quarter, the Bulldogs prevailed in their first meeting with the Maniacs of the season.

Having already beaten CIL rival St. Maries once, the win marked Grangeville’s second victory in CIL play this season, and the Bulldogs’ prime position in the standings remains subject to outcomes of a Jan. 26 home game against St. Maries and a Feb. 12 road game at Orofino. With three weeks left in the regular season, the win points to a likelihood of Grangeville securing the District I-II tournament top seed – and an early bye in one of the state’s thinnest 2A districts.
