With 17 wrestlers dressing, the Clearwater Valley-Kamiah cooperative has showed relatively strong turnout for this season. At its first competition of the winter, CV-K took third place in team scoring at the annual Dick Griswold Memorial Tournament held Saturday, Dec. 1, at Potlatch. The co-op squad scored 75 points and placed six points back of McCall and just one behind second-place Orofino.

“It was a good first day out for us, and the wrestlers all did very well. We were missing four of our varsity wrestlers that would have filled out our lineup,” coach Carlos Martinez said. “I am proud of all the kids and the way they wrestled this weekend and look forward to the rest of the season.”

Individually, Christian Fabbi placed first in the 126-pound bracket, Ty Dominguez placed first at 152, Lane Schilling won the 170-pound bracket, and Peyton Whipple placed first at 182. Fallon Wilkins won the girls 113 bracket. Austin Corey (195) placed second, Daring Cross (113) and Bubba Summers (182) placed third, Tristan Dominguez (126) placed fourth, and Kaylee Page placed second in the girls 136 bracket.

Fabbi’s final was a 7-2 decision over McCall’s Gage Cooley. Ty Dominguez pinned Gage Norton of St. Maries for his, Schilling pinned Tuff Bentz of McCall for his, Whipple won a 4-3 decision for his, and Wilkins pinned Medeline de la Cruz Castillo for hers.

Next, CV-K is set to wrestle Friday night, Dec. 7, at Kellogg.
