With India Peery scoring 18 points during the first half and 20 during the game, the Prairie girls beat Troy 66-27 in the Friday night, Feb. 1, District II semifinal at LCSC. The Pirates will face Whitepine League rival Lapwai in the district final next Friday, Feb. 8.
Jordyn Higgins added 15 for PHS, and the Pirates turned a 14-10 first quarter lead into a 43-20 halftime lead.
Before Prairie’s lead exploded, Troy senior guard Kiana Hoskins-Oakley had the Trojans within 12-10, after which Madison Shears knocked down three consecutive scores. Troy tallied on a press break early in the second quarter when the PHS defense botched a rotation in transition, but a pair of foul shots by Kristyna Krogh followed by a Peery layup pushed Prairie’s lead to 10, 22-12. The lead exceeded 20 on a field goal by Alexis Hiler, to which Peery added a jump shot just before halftime.
The third quarter saw Prairie outscore Troy 17-5, and the fourth brought the contest quickly to its conclusion with a running clock.
Troy led 2-0 early in the first, and Prairie took a 7-6 lead, never to be relinquished, on a trey by Shears about halfway through the first.
Troy will host Clearwater Valley in an eliminator on Monday night, Feb. 4.
