A fast start had the Salmon River girls sitting pretty after the first quarter of the Long Pin Conference’s district tournament finale Tuesday night, Feb. 5, but Tri-Valley rallied from six down – and had a shot for the win in the end.
SRHS held on 45-43 and moves on to the 1AD2 state tournament as the District III champion.
“Tri-Valley was a tough opponent,” Salmon River head coach Paula Tucker told the Free Press. “Every time we got a lead they fought back. They are fast and they out rebounded us, but our girls kept their composure and controlled the tempo. It was a good win for us. Now we will get back to practice and prepare for state.”
Chevelle Shepherd scored 21 points and Emily Diaz added 10 for Salmon River. Defensively, SRHS held Tri-Valley without a double-digit scorer.
