BOISE – A closer game could not have been played without overtime, as the Grangeville girls took 2018 2A runner-up Ririe down to the wire and won 52-49 Friday night, Feb. 15, at Bishop Kelly High School.

Camden Barger scored 19, including a lead-changing layup during a run that reversed an 11-point deficit. Ririe made only one shot – a three-pointer – during the final seven minutes of play. Grangeville scored 17 during that same stretch, which saw Megan Bashaw step in after key defender Jakaili Norman fouled out with 6:50 to go.

Grangeville chipped the lead down to nine with a pair of free throws by Paige Lindsley, and cut it further when the GHS press turned Ririe over on several consecutive made-shot inbounds throw-ins. Even as the Grangeville crowd roared for a corner jumper made by Bailey Vanderwall, Paige Lindsley intercepted an inbound-pass, which Barger turned into a layup that cut it to 46-45.

Ririe answered with a three-ball by top scorer Indee Williams (17 points).

Grangeville leveled the score at 49. Down four, Barger sank a jump shot and, after a defensive stop, delivered a long outlet pass to Zoe Lutz for a layup.

After Barger put in the lead-changing lay-in, Grangeville bled the clock, but turned it over, then came up with a defensive stop that forced Ririe into desperation.

Grangeville will play Malad at 9:15 a.m. MT Saturday, Feb. 16, in the consolation final back at BKHS.
