The Clearwater Valley-Kamiah wrestling co-op continued to show strength in numbers – and in quality – with six district champions among 16 who placed at the district tournament Saturday, Feb. 16.

Placing first were Daring Cross (113), Tristin Dominguez (120), Christian Fabbi (126), Ty Dominguez (152), Davis McElroy (160) and Peyton Whipple (182).

They added six runners-up, with the following placing second: Landon Olsen (98), Fallon Wilkins (106), Johnnie Raymond (132), Cedar Fisher (145), Lane Schilling (170) and Bubba Summers (182).

Also medaling for CV/K were: Austin Corey (third, 220), Tyler Hess (third, 285), Landon Keen (fourth, 145) and Josh Hagemann (sixth, 138).

CV/K had 14 medalists, and with all who placed in the top three on to represent their respective schools at state Feb. 22-23 in Pocatello, Clearwater Valley will have 12 representatives and Kamiah will have two (Whipple and Raymond).

Grangeville’s Caleb Barger is also on to state. He placed second to Fabbi at 126, having beaten James Clark of Potlatch in a 6-5 decision to reach the district championship round.

“Caleb beat Fabbi earlier in the season,” CV/K head coach Carlos Martinez told the Free Press Feb. 16. “He learned you can’t take anything for granted.”

Martinez said the state seedings are to be decided on Sunday, and said he thinks that with six qualifiers of the team’s 2018 qualifiers heading to Pocatello once again, he anticipates co-op wrestlers will find themselves in good position. The Free Press will have more information in print on Wednesday.
